Our Story

Shaped by a journey of identity, belonging, and a confrontation with shame

As an adopted child in the tension between two cultures, our founder often felt different – not necessarily excluded, but rarely fully reflected in her surroundings. Whether it was the lack of representation of minorities, or the feeling that her body did not resemble that of her Danish friends, it created a quiet sense of neither fitting in nor feeling recognized. In time, she realized that the feeling of being “too much” or “not enough” is something many people carry in silence.

SHADES was created to change that narrative.

"It's not just about underwear. It's about being able to see yourself in what you see and feeling represented."

Mia Alexandra Vega Præsius, Founder

Driving Force

Driven by the belief that if you have the capacity to help, you do

Our commitment to supporting girls and women is deeply rooted in our founder’s own story. Mia’s biological mother grew up in difficult and uncertain circumstances, carrying a level of responsibility far beyond her years. Yet, she made the brave choice to provide her daughter with a safer, more stable life. Through sheer strength and determination, she rebuilt her own life and went on to earn a degree in law.

Her story is a living testament to willpower, but also a reminder that no one should have to carry that weight alone. For our founder, it evokes both deep gratitude and a clear duty to give back.

How we give back

We donate 1% of all sales to Pigefonden to support girls and young women.

Giving back is an integral part of our foundation. We donate 1% of all our sales to the Girls' Foundation, which provides girls and young women with access to education, protection, and the right tools to create an independent future.

The Girls' Foundation's work makes a noticeable difference where the need is greatest – from helping young mothers complete their schooling to educating them about their rights and preventing violence.

We know that not everyone starts life in the same place. That's why we support initiatives that create lasting change. When girls are empowered and given opportunities, the ripple effects spread far beyond the individual. At the same time, SHADES was created to build a community where fewer people feel lonely, unseen, or out of place.

"Because empowerment starts from within."
